Who are your clients in terms of people/government?
I don’t have clients; rather, I have collaborators across various sectors. I work closely with educational
institutions, helping develop cybersecurity curricula and guiding research initiatives. My collaboration
extends to government organizations, particularly in research projects involving AI and IoT for social
impact, such as sustainable agriculture and healthcare solutions. In the corporate sector, I engage with
industry experts on cybersecurity solutions and AI-driven applications. Additionally, I support startups
and entrepreneurs, assisting them in building secure digital platforms. Through these partnerships, I aim to
bridge the gap between research, education, and real-world applications in cybersecurity and AI.
What are the pros and cons of being in this career?
A career in cybersecurity and academia comes with numerous advantages. One of the biggest pros is the
high demand for cybersecurity professionals, as every industry relies on secure digital systems. This field
also offers continuous innovation and research opportunities, allowing professionals to stay at the
forefront of AI, machine learning, and security advancements. Additionally, cybersecurity provides strong
job security and career growth, as skilled experts are always in demand. Another rewarding aspect is the
ability to contribute to society by developing solutions that protect individuals, businesses, and
governments from cyber threats. However, there are also challenges in this career. One major con is the
need for constant learning—cyber threats evolve rapidly, requiring professionals to continually update
their skills. The role also comes with high responsibility, as security breaches can have severe consequences,
including financial losses and data exposure. Additionally, the job can be stressful and high-pressure,
especially when handling security incidents, where quick decision-making is crucial. Despite these
challenges, the field remains exciting, dynamic, and highly rewarding for those passionate about
cybersecurity.
Is this field remunerative?
Yes, cybersecurity and AI are among the highest-paying fields in
technology. Skilled professionals can earn well, particularly with experience
and specialized expertise in network security, ethical hacking, AI security,
and data privacy.
Can you give an example of a project that you have worked on?
I have worked on several exciting research projects in cybersecurity and AI. One notable project is anomaly
and phishing website detection, where we developed machine learning models to identify fraudulent
websites attempting to steal user credentials. Another significant project is deepfake audio and video
detection, which focuses on using AI-driven techniques to differentiate between real and manipulated
content, helping to combat misinformation and digital fraud. Additionally, I have researched flash crowd
attacks on MANETs (Mobile Ad Hoc Networks) to enhance network security and resilience against
sudden traffic spikes. These projects, among others, aim to improve digital security, prevent cyber threats,
and contribute to a safer online environment. Through my role as Faculty Sponsor for the MITB ACM
Student Chapter, I also encourage students to explore similar cutting-edge projects, fostering innovation in
cybersecurity and AI.
